Full Biography:
NEREA the fiddler is an accomplished musician, dancer, teacher and all around entertainer. A Canadian Folk Music nominee, she has performed in 4 continents for audiences as large as 17,000. NEREA combines traditional and modern fiddling, fusing it with dance, in a way you have never seen before. From Dubai to Paris, Los Angeles to Beirut, NEREA’s modern fiddle show has captivated audiences of all ages.
Her music hails from the deeply rooted Celtic traditions of Cape Breton Island, Canada, where she grew up breathing the music. With various masters, she learned the ancient fiddling traditions that were brought to the island mainly from Scottish settlers in the 1700’s.
A “virtuoso of the violin” NEREA got her first paid gig performing at the Museum of Civilization for Canada Day in Ottawa at the tender age of 10. At the age of 15 she recorded her first album, Footprints, which she released and earned a nomination for at the Canadian Folk Music Awards when she was only 16 years old.
Although she was raised in Canada, NEREA was born on Hollywood blvd, in Los Angeles California, to a Spanish mother and French father leaving her no other choice than to become a nomad. As a teen, she moved to Brittany, France where she had the opportunity to learn the traditional music and dances of the region playing with competitive dance troupes and numerous bands regularly.
At 18, armed with a diploma in Artist Management from Berklee University, Nerea pushed boundaries even further and took “Celtic” to the International stage. She went on to perform at the Bercy Stadium in Paris (televised live), Edinburgh Castle, for the Sheikh of Dubai, at the Canadian Embassy of Abu Dhabi, the British Embassy of Dubai, on the morning talk show "Sabah al Khair Ya Arab", the renowned Music Hall of Beirut and during “La Semana Grande de Vigo” in Spain, to name a few. Her nomadic life has influenced her music, making her style as unique as her story. After many years performing across the globe, Nerea moved back to the USA at the end of 2018.
Performing, collaborating, and sharing her music & dance in such vast diverse places with an incredibly warm response, has inspired Nerea to continue pushing boundaries, breaking down barriers & crossing borders. Following her heart and staying true to her motto:
Music has No Borders.
